Intended use of Braun ExactFit™ 3
Braun upper arm blood pressure monitor has been developed f
or accurate and comf
ortable blood
pressure measurements
.
The measuring accuracy of Braun’
s upper arm blood pressure monitor was
tested at the time of manufacture and was prov
en by clinical research in acc
ordance with ESH.
This device has not been tested for and henc
e is not intended for neonatal and infant subjects,
pregnant, including pre-eclamptic users.
What you should know about blood pressur
e
Blood pressure constantly changes thr
oughout the day
. It rises sharply in the early morning and
declines during the late morning. Blood pressure rises again in the afternoon and nally drops t
o
a low level at night. Also
, it may vary in a short period of time. Ther
efore, r
eadings from successive
measurements can uctuate.
This device will display your blood pr
essure reading ref
erring to two values: systolic and diastolic.
The systolic blood pressur
e (the upper number) indicates how much pressure y
our blood is exerting
against your artery walls when the hear
t beats.
The diastolic blood pressure (the lo
wer number)
indicates how much pressure y
our blood is exerting against your artery walls while the hear
t is resting
between beats.
The pulse value is also display
ed after each measurement.
Blood pressure measured in a doctor’
s oce only pr
ovides a momentary value. Repeated
measurements at home better reect one
’
s ac
tual blood pressure values under everyday conditions
.
Moreover
, many people have a dierent blood pressur
e when they measure at home, because they
tend to be more relax
ed than when in the doctor’
s oce. Regular blood pressure measur
ements taken
at home can provide your doctor with valuable inf
ormation on your normal blood pressure values
under actual «everyday» conditions.
The ESH (European Society of Hypertension) and WHO (World Health Organisation) have set up the
following standard blood pr
essure values when measured with a resting pulse at home:
Blood pressure
(mmHg)
Normal values
Grade 1

Grade 2

hypertension
Grade 3

SYS = systole

DIA = diastole

Safety information and important precautions
T
o ensure accurate measuring results, read the complete instructions for use car
efully
.
People suering fr
om cardiac arrhythmia, vascular constriction, arteriosclerosis in the extremities,
diabetes or users of cardiac pacemakers should consult their doctor befor
e measuring their blood
pressure themselves
. Deviations in blood pressure values may occur in such cases
.
If your blood pressure reading is in the sev
ere hypertension range with values of 180 mmHg systolic
and above, and/or 110 mmHg diastolic and abo
ve; and you nd you hav
e one or two readings in this
range - please see your doctor straight away
.
If you are under medical treatment or taking any medication, please consult y
our doctor rst.
The use of this blood pressure monitor is not int
ended as a substitute for a consultation with y
our
doctor
.
Avoid compr
ession or restriction of the connection tubing. Continuous cu pressur
e due to the
connection tubing kink
ing can aect blood ow and cause possible injury to the user
.
It is not recommended to use this device on the arm of the same side of the body on which the user
had a mastectomy
.
English

5
Measuring blood pressure too frequently can cause injury to the user due to blood ow interference
.
It is not recommended to apply the cu to a limb on which there is intra
vascular access or on which
an arterio-venous (A-V
) shunt is present.
This can cause temporary interference of blood ow and
potential injury to the user
.
DO NOT apply the cu ov
er a wound as this can cause further injur
y
.
It is not recommended to use the device while simultaneously using other medical electrical (ME)
equipment on the same limb.
Key rules f
or accura
te blood pressure measurement
Always take readings at the same time of da
y
, under the same conditions.
Do not take a measurement within 30 minutes of smoking, drinking coee or tea or any f
orm of
exertion. T
hese factors will inuence the measurement.
Always measure on the same arm.
The left arm is recommended
. Do not move or speak. Sit
comfortably, keep y
our legs uncrossed and feet at on the oor
, back and arm suppor
ted.
Place the cu in direct contact with the skin. Do not wrap the cu over a jacket, sweater or shirt.
If you want to take multiple measurements
, wait approximately 3 minut
es before repeating a
measurement.

Choosing the right cu
For accur
ate measurement, it is important to choose the correct size cu which best ts your upper
arm. Choose the cu size according to y
our arm circumference and make sur
e the bottom of the cu is
2~3cm above your elbow
.
•
Small/Medium Cu = 22~32cm arm circumference
•
Large/XLarge Cu = 32~42cm arm circumference
Applying the arm cu
1.
Slide the end of arm cu furthest from the tube through the metal ring to a loop.
The smooth cloth should be on the inside of the cu
.
2.
Plug the air hose into the connector (F
ig. 4).
3.
If the cu is located correctly, the v
elcro will be on the outside of the cu and the metal ring will
not touch the skin (Fig. 5).
4.
Put your left arm through the cu loop
.
The bottom of the cu should be approxima
tely (2~3 cm)
above elbow
.
The tube should lie ov
er the brachial artery on the inside of the ar
m (Fig
. 6).
5.
Pull the cu so that the top and bottom edges ar
e tightened around your arm (F
ig. 7).
6.
When the cu is positioned properly
, press the
V
elcro rmly against the pile side of the cu
.
7.
This cu is suitable for use if the <<index>> mark falls within the <<ok range>> marked by two
arrows when the cu is tightened ar
ound your arm (Fig
. 8).
8.
Sit on a chair and place your arm on the table so that the cu is at the same level as y
our heart
(Fig
. 9).
