4. SETTINGS
Setting the temperature units
The thermometer reading can be displayed in degrees Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F).
When the thermometer is turned o, remove the battery cover and select the unit of
measurement using the switch between the batteries. Set the switch the up position
for Celsius (°C) or to the down position for Fahrenheit (°F).
Sound settings
The reading can be accompanied by an audible signal. Follow the instructions below
to turn the beep on or o.
1. Switch on the thermometer with the power/measurement button.
2. Press and hold the memory/sound button for about 2 seconds.
3. When turning on the sound, the thermometer will beep. When turning o the
sound, the mute symbol will appear on the display.
Setting adult or child mode
The thermometer can measure temperature in adult or child mode, on the forehead
or in the ear. Child mode is specially designed for children under 12 years of age.
Select the desired mode using the adult/child mode button. When the child mode is
selected, the child symbol is shown on the display.
5. GUIDELINES FOR MEASURING TEMPERATURE
To ensure that the reading always shows your body temperature accurately, you
must take into account the following factors that may aect the measurement.
1. It is important to know the normal healthy temperature of each individual. This
is the only way to accurately diagnose a fever. To determine normal temperature,
take several temperature measurements when the individual is healthy. Measure
the temperature with a standard digital thermometer to conrm.
2. Users must be indoors for 30 minutes before taking a reading. Note: Users and the
thermometer should be in the same temperature environment for at least 10 mi-
nutes before taking a reading.
3. Users should not drink, eat or be physically active before taking a reading, inc-
luding bathing, showering, shampooing or drying their hair. Before each mea-
surement, remove any head covering, remove hair from the forehead and wait
10 minutes.
4. Oils or cosmetics on the forehead may lead to a lower reading than the actual
body temperature.
5. Keeping your hand on your forehead for any length of time will eect the reading.
6. Do not measure the temperature on scarred skin, open wounds or abrasions.
7. Do not measure the temperature on a sweaty forehead. The resulting reading may
be distorted.

8. Do not take readings while breastfeeding or immediately after breastfeeding.
9. Do not use this thermometer outdoors.
10. Do not leave the thermometer near places that are very hot, such as replaces
and stoves.
11. The thermometer sensor is the most sensitive part of the device. Do not touch
the sensor. Reading accuracy may be aected if the sensor is damaged or dirty.
12. If the thermometer is stored in an environment with a signicantly dierent tem-
perature than where you will take the reading, keep it in the reading location for
approximately 30 minutes before use.
13. It is not intended for use in an oxygen-rich environment or in the presence of a
ammable anesthetic mixtures of air, oxygen or nitrogen dioxide.
6. TAKING A READING
The thermometer oers three temperature measurement modes.
a) Forehead mode
b) Ear mode
c) Surface mode
Switch between the modes using the measurement mode button. You can identify
the selected mode by the symbol on the display.
Taking a reading is simple. Follow the instructions below.
1. Press the power/measurement button to turn the thermometer on.
2. The currently set measurement modes are displayed and the thermometer is re-
ady.
3. a) In forehead mode, aim the thermometer at the centre of the forehead at a dis-
tance of 1 to 3 cm and then press the power/measurement button.
b) In ear mode, rst remove the sensor cover. Then insert the sensor into the ear
canal and press the power/measurement button.
Caution: Do not force the thermometer into the ear canal. The ear canal may get injured.
Be careful when measuring the temperature of a child with a narrow ear canal.
c) In surface mode, point the thermometer at the centre of the object you want to
measure at a distance of 1 to 2 cm and press the power/measurement button.
4. The reading will be displayed.
5. To extend battery life, the thermometer automatically shuts o when idle for more
than 1 minute.
Colour and sound fever alert
The thermometer reading is accompanied by a colour and a sound when measuring
on the forehead or in the ear.
When the temperature on the forehead or in the ear is between 35.0 °C/95.0°F and
37.5 °C/99.5°F, a long beep sounds and the indicator glows green, indicating that the
body temperature is normal.
